pizza burgers

These burgers are my own take on Burgers a la Pizzaiola, a recipe from Everyday Italian on Food Network.

Pizza is by far my favorite food and when you mix the flavors of pizza with a hamburger it is  DELICIOUS.

FOR THE BURGERS
2 large cloves of garlic, peeled and cut in half
4 sun dried tomatoes
1/4 cup of fresh basil
1/4 cup of grated mozzarella
1/4 cup of grated parmesan
1 tablespoon of homemade tomato sauce
a pinch of red pepper flakes (I like it a little spicier so I use 1/4 teaspoon)
1 heaping teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of warm butter
1 pound of lean ground beef

In a food processor mix together garlic, sun dried tomatoes, basil, mozzarella, parmesan, tomato sauce, red pepper flakes, salt and butter. When it thoroughly mixed, add the mixture and ground beef to a medium bowl and use your hands to combine. Form 4 burgers that are about 1/4 thick. Grill until cooked through.
  • TIP: a few minutes before you take the burgers off the grill add a few slices of fresh mozzarella to melt on top of each burger.
FOR BUNS
4 english muffins
4 tablespoons of butter
1 clove of garlic finely chopped

In a small bowl melt butter. Once melted add garlic and stir until you can smell the garlic. Cut english muffins in half and add 1 tablespoon of garlic butter to each. Cook english muffins in a pan over medium heat or throw them on the grill with the burgers.
  • Recommended toppings: fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, arugula, sliced tomatoes, grated parmesan or grilled onions.
